EU is trying to kill gaming, and the internet as we know it
....and kill Linux!
I remember a time when parents taught their kids how to avoid predators online. Parents these days just aren't parenting. They expect governments, AI and corporations to do it for them. And this is what brought us to this point in time, and this dire situation with this draconian legislature. The European Commission presented its proposal for the EU Kids Act. Presented as child protection, the regulation would make proof of age a condition for normal use of social media, video platforms, computer games, app stores and AI chatbots for every user in the EU. This sounds good in theory, but it has catastrophic ramifications for the gaming industry, and operating systems, potentially worldwide. The current proposed law, is that there has to be ID checks at minimum 3 different levels BEFORE you can even play a game, and even with that, there's limits on how you can engage, and even for how long you can play, limiting gameplay to one hour The additional laws demand that all Linux distros become illegal to use in the EU (despite many countries aiming to move away from Microsoft and looking at Linux as an alternative). They also are demanding that developers potentially pay up to over $300000/year, in order to sell any game in the EU, which will kill the indie market outright, cause, let's be honest, what indie dev has that kind of money? The ID checks they want at the OS, Developer/Distributor and Player level, in order to play a game online. So lets play out that scenario: You want to play Minecraft. You are an adult. You have to show your ID when you log into your computer, Then you have to log into Microsoft/Xbox, show your ID again, then to log into the game, you have to show your ID again. And all this is BEFORE you even touch down to get digging. This poses huge privacy risks too, with the increase in scraping bots, and data hacks and leaks, which increases each time you have to use your ID to log in. Now to put your own security in this circumstance into context:
“The Commission’s age verification app, although later hastily presented as only a demo, was cracked within hours of its launch. Forcing mandatory age verification and digital ID on everyone not only creates a surveillance system any authoritarian would be proud of, it also does nothing to protect children better. The natives of the online world will be the first to circumvent any bans, while all of us lose our anonymity, all for the benefit of Big Tech, which can keep its toxic algorithms unchanged and will get even more personal profiles of everyone.” Markéta Gregorová, MEP (Czech Pirate Party, Greens/EFA)So, what can we do? I've taken a bit of time to kick off this spooky season by changing the page topper a bit to reflect the season. Also for those who play City of Heroes Homecoming, the Halloween event has begun! I currently have design class, as well as hopefully upcoming, programming fundamentals.
I also have my commissions open for both digital works internationally, as well as ACEO's, both parts of series, or customs, available for Canadian customers.
My ACEO's can only be purchased in Canada for the moment, due to the EU PPWR and USA tariff situation, which may have to wait till the new year as the PPRW is being negotiated for small businesses and artists, and I'm really hoping the tariff situation improves after the midterms.

Additional updates
I'd like to keep up on the YouTube series and videos that I'm working on, but I think if YouTube is going to continue with this blatant rugpull of banning accounts that aren't sexual in nature or even blocking accounts with no videos, I may have to give up on that project altogether.
Additionally, as much as I want to do artwork full time, I don't see that being plausible, and unless something changes and I get some commissions, I'll have to give up entirely and try to find work just so myself and my partner can keep our heads above water.
It's extremely hard to create works when I'm financially stressed, and work either stresses out my brain, or my body, depending on what work I can find, even if it's against my doctor's recommendations, which runs the risk of nerve damage in my hands and arms. I have nerve issues where the ulnar nerve scrapes over top of the ...cubital bone in my elbow (I think tha's the word for it). What does that mean? It means I loose feeling in my hands, and as an artist, that's pretty devistating.
On the flip side, anyone trying to find work is having a really hard time, and even almost half of Torontonians (myself included) find it very hard to live in this city. Especially with the rising cost of living and the *absolutely astronomical* cost of rent in this province, let alone within Toronto. Most say they want to move, but I can't afford to. I need to stay in Toronto because of the accessibility of public transit, as I don't drive.
But hey, enough of my problems. TL;DR: Commission me for art, either for your site, or for personal use (we can hash out details for licencing), so I don't have to find a soul crushing physical labor job that could potentially end my artwork abilities for good.
