About Kiera-Oona's DIY
Kiera-Oona's DIY was developed under a different name, and the YouTube channel inception was back in 2006, with the Do It Yourself spirit in mind. The original idea stemmed from inspiration from other internet groups, communities and artists, such as Craftster (now Lettuce Craft), Threadbanger (now just Rob Czar under his own name), the original Ravelry (before the programming changes), and The AntiCraft (website is now defunct, but you can still get the book).
The premise behind Kiera-Oona's DIY is to ensure that crafts, skills, and knowledge are continued to be provided to anyone who has a willingness to learn, and develop those skills, and not to have it stuck behind a paywall wherever possible. Far too many websites keep things pay gated, and in this economy in the year 2026, everything has become far more expensive, and everything under a subscription model. Life's too expensive, to have that knowledge and infromation to become lost. It needs to be preserved for future crafters, sewists and artisans.
About Kiera-Oona
This Toronto based Canadian, has always had an artistic flair. Many of her earlier traditional and digital medim works were fantasy focused, inspired from high fantasy movie, and superhero comic books, novels, and games, both video games and tabletop alike. Her primary focus is sewing techniques, but being a multi-crafter, other skills involve around other fiber arts, as well as traditional artistic mediums.
In spring of 2024, Kiera-Oona had completed the Millinery Certificate Program at George Brown College, with an A grade average, creating 12 hats in total for the course, but continues to experiment in various hat making technqiues, which the process can be seen in some of her YouTube videos.
As of February 2026, her current studies in college are Illustration, and Introduction to Adobe Creative Cloud, at George Brown College, and is hoping that the Pattern Drafting 2 course will take place coming up in the next semester in May 2026. She only has a few classes left that are required for the Fashion Design Fundamentals Certificate Program at George Brown College in Toronto.
With hopes that she can complete her certificate courses (barring cancellations due to the current Ford government funding cuts), Kiera-Oona is looking towards employment in sustainability in fashion design, by potentially thrifting clothing, and turning them into new clothes that will fit a wider variety of bodies, especially for people who are plus size, or who have a physical disability or limb difference for accessability, while reducing clothing waste in the environment by recycling clothing, making unique pieces. Any clothing she makes with new fabrics for herself (uncut bolts or yards of fabric), a majority is made with natural fibers, such as cotton, linen, or wool, and avoiding synthetics where possible. She is currently working towards upcycling items from her own current wardrobe that no longer fit her body or style, to make pieces that not only fit her current shape, but also fit a style that is her own. Kiera-Oona also tends to rotate through a variety of crafts, and art mediums, that fit her inspiration. In doing so she brings experience and knowledge to the internet, through her YouTube channel, Ko-fi site where patterns and e-zines can be downloaded for free, as well as continually upgrading her own skills, not just through college, but also practical application, for demonstration for the YouTube audience. Kiera-Oona is also the sole voice actor, editor, physical medium artist, and programmer for her blog, YouTube channel, e-zines, patterns, and this website. Kiera-Oona has completed the following courses in the certificate program:
